Travel for work or leisure can come with health risks. Unify Health’s Travel Medicine Program helps you prepare before departure, with advice tailored to your medical history, itinerary and destination.

Led by Dr. Mick Markus, our program brings together pre-travel consultations, vaccination services, preventative medications and post-travel follow-up care.

What is travel medicine?

Travel medicine focuses on preventing and managing health issues that travellers may face when visiting different countries. It includes vaccinations, preventative medication and practical health advice for your journey.

Services available

Pre-travel consultation

Dr. Mick Markus reviews your medical history and travel plans to recommend vaccinations and preventative measures. You will receive destination-specific information about medical risks and relevant treatment plans.

Vaccination services

Depending on your destination, you may need vaccinations for conditions such as yellow fever, typhoid, and hepatitis A and B. Your consultation includes an assessment of the vaccinations relevant to your trip.

Unify Health Clinic is a certified Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre by the Public Health Agency of Canada.

Malaria prevention

Preventative medication can be provided when you are travelling to a region where malaria is prevalent.

Travel health kits

Customized kits can include essentials such as antiseptics and medication for common travel-related ailments.

Post-travel follow-up

Consultations are available if you require medical attention after returning from your trip.

Specialist-led travel care.

Dr. Mick Markus is an occupational medicine physician with a special interest in travel and tropical medicine. His training includes a medical degree from the University of Toronto and a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine from Tulane University.

He previously served as a Senior Advisor with the federal Public Health Agency of Canada. His preventive care approach helps travellers understand the health risks relevant to their journey.

The program combines travel preparation with follow-up after your return, flexible scheduling and access to the wider Unify Health team. Our current travel clinic information also notes convenient appointments and free parking.

What if I am returning to my home country?

A familiar destination can still carry health risks. After living abroad for an extended period, your immunity to some local diseases may have decreased.

Pre-travel assessment is important even if you grew up in the country you are visiting, including destinations where malaria, dengue or waterborne illnesses occur.

Why choose a physician-led travel consultation?

The consultation brings together your health history, the details of your trip and medical expertise in preventive, travel and tropical medicine. Dr. Mick Markus uses destination-specific information to guide recommendations, with post-travel follow-up available if needed.

Our existing program describes this comprehensive, physician-led approach as the reason its pricing may differ from other travel clinics or pharmacies.

How much does the consultation cost?

The pre-travel consultation costs $100 and is not covered by OHIP. Contact the booking team for current vaccination and medication pricing.
