PLASTIC SURGERY

What is plastic surgery?

Plastic surgery is the art and science of surgical repair and restoration of damaged and abnormal skin and body parts to restore function and appearance. The word “plastic” derives from the ancient Greek word “plastikos”, which means to mould or give form. It describes the discipline of surgery, which focuses on the many techniques to restore, rebuild, and repair the body. At Unify Health, we have a complement of General Plastic Surgery, Oculoplastic Surgery, and ENT Plastic Surgery to meet your specific needs.

What are the common reasons for seeing a plastic surgeon at our clinic?

Some of the typical disorders treated by our plastic surgeons include:

  • Benign mole, cyst, hemangioma and lipoma removal

  • Skin lesion excision (skin cancer, nevus, keratosis)

  • Scar revisions

  • Carpal tunnel release

  • Trigger finger release

  • Ganglion cyst excision (hand and wrist)

Botox cosmetic injections and dermal fillers to soften wrinkles and for rejuvenation of:

  • Frown lines

  • Forehead wrinkles

  • Crow’s feet

  • Chin dimpling

  • Corner of the mouth

  • Smoker lines

  • Brow arching

Eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) for patients with:

  • Loose and sagging skin over the upper eyelids

  • Excessive fat in the upper and/or lower eyelids

  • Lower eye bags

  • Excessive skin and wrinkles in the lower lids

Is there a cost associated with these techniques?

While OHIP covers some medically necessary plastic and reconstructive procedures, most elective cosmetic procedures are not covered. Our team will be able to assist you in providing information about which procedures will be associated with a private fee.
